Zaira was born in Xalapa Veracruz Mexico. She lived in Mexico until she turned 12. After she finished elementary school in Mexico, her mom migrated to Colorado with her and her 2 brothers. Zaira attended DPS schools in middle and high school. She moved to Colorado without speaking any English other than saying “the window is red, and the apple is open”. She was a new student, in a new country and did not speak the language. Zaira knew she wanted to be a teacher from a very young age but as an English Language Learner herself, she became passionate about education and hopes to make a difference for the community that she serves. Zaira enjoys working with students and meeting their many different needs.
She attended Metropolitan State University where she majored in Human development and minored in Elementary education. She later obtained her Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education through the University of Colorado at Denver. She believes in helping students realize their potential and open opportunities for their future. In her time off Zaira enjoys spending time with her family going on hikes.
