Dear Families, We can’t believe it’s been nearly a month of school already!  Click here to see some picture highlights.  It’s certainly feeling like a warm and full place again at school with so many great learning and activities happening.   This newsletter will come to you about monthly or bimonthly and its purpose is to be a snapshot of all the amazing things our students are doing as well as share what is up and coming over the next month.  We can’t wait to see you all at our International Festival on October 6th!  It will be a great opportunity to come together as a community again and see the incredible learning of our kiddos. Queridas familias, ¡No podemos creer que ya ha pasado casi un mes de clases! Haga clic aquí para ver algunas imágenes destacadasSin duda, la escuela se siente nuevamente como un lugar cálido y pleno con tantos aprendizajes y actividades geniales. Upcoming Events/ Eventos por venir	International Festival Please mark your calendars to attend our International Festival on October 6th at 2pm in the school’s court yard.  Classrooms and student groups have already started preparing for you! We are getting ready for our annual International Festival on October 6th! We are hoping to bring in some really amazing performers this year – and we need your help! If you would like to donate to our International Festival Performer fund, please bring card, cash, or check to the front office and let them know it is for the International Festival! If you know of any groups or people who may be interested in performing, please reach out to Meg (meg_zimmerman@dpsk12.net) or Mrs. Larsen (shannon_larsen@dpsk12.net ).  Day of the Dead Festival Mark your calendars!  November 2nd 4-6:30pm in the school’s courtyard! There will be Food music Performers games and more! We would love for all of our families to join us in Celebrating Day of the Dead. It is a beautiful hispanic holiday where we celebrate the life of our loved ones that have past away. Our students will be learning about this holiday and just like last year, every grade level will build an altar. Families are welcomed to bring pictures of their loved ones that have past to their teacher.  Design for Change Week Our 3rd annual Design for Change week is November 9th-15th!  All students will learn about a topic they are passionate about and work through the Design for Change steps (Feel, Imagine, Do, Share).  1st through 5th grade spend the week in mix-aged level groups. Last year students studied everything from food waste and homelessness to therapy animals.  One student group even created proposals for an accessible, adaptive playground that is now scheduled to be installed by DPS next summer!  We believe students can make a difference if we give them the space and support to do so. Look for more information coming near the end of the month. We are currently looking for:Community organization ideas for partnerships, ideally run by People of Color that are our students and families.Guest presenters and speakers to help students understand various topics.Email Alex if you have ideas! alexandria_wenzel@dpsk12.net	Festival Internacional  Marque en sus calendarios para asistir a nuestro Festival Internacional el 6 de octubre a las 2pm en el patio de la escuela. Es una hermosa fiesta hispana donde celebramos la vida de nuestros seres queridos que han fallecido. Nuestros estudiantes aprenderán sobre este día festivo y, al igual que el año pasado, cada grado construirá un altar. Las familias pueden traer fotografías de sus seres queridos fallecidos a su maestro. Semana del Diseño para el Cambio ¡Nuestra tercera semana anual de Diseño para el Cambio es del 9 al 15 de noviembre! Todos los estudiantes aprenderán sobre un tema que les apasiona y trabajarán en los pasos de Diseño para el cambio (Sentir, Imaginar, Hacer, Compartir). Los grados 1.° a 5.° pasan la semana en grupos de niveles mixtos. El año pasado, los estudiantes estudiaron de todo, desde el desperdicio de alimentos y la falta de vivienda hasta los animales de terapia. ¡Un grupo de estudiantes incluso creó propuestas para un área de juegos accesible y adaptable que DPS planea instalar el próximo verano!Creemos que los estudiantes pueden marcar la diferencia si les brindamos el espacio y el apoyo para hacerlo. Events from the past month/ eventos del mes pasado	Pictures from our first month of school! 5th Grade Overnight at Breckenridge Our 5th graders spent Thursday and Friday in Breckenridge, Colorado learning new skills and having a ton of fun together!  Student rock climbed, hiked, kayaked and paddle boarded all while cheering each other on!  When the weather got a little chilly, they cooked, played games, and curled up for a movie.  Check out some pictures and a video slideshow!	Fotos de nuestro primer mes de escuela ¡Los alumnos de quinto grado fueron a Breckenridge! ¡Nuestros alumnos de quinto grado pasaron el jueves y viernes en Breckenridge, Colorado, aprendiendo nuevas habilidades y divirtiéndose muchísimo juntos! ¡Los estudiantes escalaron, caminaron, navegaron en kayak y remaron mientras se animaban unos a otros! Parent Teacher Home Visits/ Visitas a domicilio de padres y maestros	Your teacher will contact you in the first month of school to schedule a Parent Teacher Home Visit.What is a home visit? Home visits are meetings between school staff and families focused on building positive relationships. They are: 20-30 minutes long, voluntary for both staff and families, hosted somewhere outside of school (home, park, library, etc.), and are based around the question – what are your hopes and dreams for your child?Why home visits?Home visits are a research-based approach correlated with improvements in student achievement, attendance, behavior.	Su maestro se comunicará con usted durante el primer mes de clases para programar una visita a domicilio de padres y maestros.¿Qué es una visita domiciliaria?Las visitas domiciliarias son reuniones entre el personal de la escuela y las familias centradas en construir relaciones positivas. Physical Education, Art and Music Corner/ rincón de Educacion Fisica, Arte, y Musica	Art Corner About Viltė (Ms. V): I am excited to be a new member of DCIS at Fairmont as the Visual Arts teacher! My love of art and language growing up led me to pursue my undergraduate degrees in Cinematic Arts and Spanish. I furthered my education with the Teach For America Launch Fellowship and Relay Graduate School of Education in Denver, where I worked as a 4th grade English Language Arts teacher. I love to spend my free time experimenting with photography, textiles, and food. I also love to spend time in nature with my partner and cats!  What you can expect in Art this school year:I was thankful to get to work with Jessica Stellish in the beginning of this school year to gather ideas and methods to implement with our students. I’ve also got some new project ideas I can’t wait to share with your students and you! Your students’ first art project of the year will be sent to Original Works, an organization that turns student artwork into gifts like magnets, sweaters, and key chains. You can expect to receive a form to order Original Works gifts with your child’s artwork on it by October 9th. 25% of order profits are donated to the art department to buy art materials and tools for the students!	Rincón del Arte Acerca de Viltė (Sra. V):¡Estoy emocionada de ser un nuevo miembro de DCIS en Fairmont como maestro de Artes Visuales! Mi amor por el arte y el lenguaje mientras crecía me llevó a obtener mis títulos universitarios en Artes Cinematográficas y Español.Continué mi educación con la Beca de Lanzamiento de Teach For America y la Escuela de Graduados en Educación de Relevo en Denver, donde trabajé como profesora de Artes del Lenguaje Inglés de cuarto grado. Me encanta pasar mi tiempo libre experimentando con la fotografía, los textiles y la comida. ¡También me encanta pasar tiempo en la naturaleza con mi pareja y mis gatos! STEM and Tech Highlight/ Lo más destacado de STEM y tecnología	Technology interface. I am super excited to kick this school year off with students learning about a variety of technology interfaces and applications. Students get to rotate to different types of technology stations that all have different interfaces. We have a BeeBot station where students can learn about push button algorithms.  A Robotics Imagination station where students can dig into three buckets of robot parts and make anything they want.  An iPad station for Sprite Box coding. Here students learn the basics of blockly/HTML coding. A Scratch Code station where students can design, share and play 8bit video games. A pbs kids station students that just want to watch educational videos. A Canva station for students that want to learn the basics of graphic design. It has been an absolute joy watching the DCIS students find their favorite technology. I can’t wait to see where they take it. Check out the stations here.	Interfaz tecnológica. Estoy muy emocionado de comenzar este año escolar con los estudiantes aprendiendo sobre una variedad de interfaces y aplicaciones tecnológicas. Los estudiantes pueden rotar a diferentes tipos de estaciones tecnológicas que tienen diferentes interfaces. Contamos con una estación BeeBot donde los estudiantes pueden aprender sobre algoritmos de botones. Una estación de imaginación robótica donde los estudiantes pueden excavar en tres cubos de piezas de robots y hacer lo que quieran. Una estación de iPad para codificación de Sprite Box. Aquí los estudiantes aprenden los conceptos básicos de la codificación Blockly/HTML. Una Scratch Code borrador donde los estudiantes pueden diseñar, compartir y jugar videojuegos de 8 bits. Una estación pbs kids para estudiantes que solo quieren ver videos educativos. Una estación de Canva para estudiantes que quieran aprender los conceptos básicos del diseño gráfico. Monthly Theme/ Tema Mensual	Hispanic Heritage Month started September 15thIt celebrates the cultures and histories of people with heritage from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. It’s also a way to honor the many achievements and contributions by Hispanic people in the United States and around the world. Here are some ways to mark the occasion with books, recipes, music, and more!	¡El Mes de la Herencia Hispana comienza el 15 de septiembre!Celebra las culturas e historias de personas con herencia de España, México, el Caribe y América Central y del Sur. También es una manera de honrar los numerosos logros y contribuciones de los hispanos en los Estados Unidos y en todo el mundo. ¡Aquí hay algunas formas de celebrar la ocasión con libros, recetas, música y más!
Student Ambassador highlight/ Lo más destacado de estudiantes embajadores	Every week at our grade level assemblies we give our Community Champion awards to students demonstrating Care, Joy, Bravery, Belief and/or Accountability!  Look for this award in your child’s backpack and chat with them about these values at home!	¡Cada semana en nuestras asambleas de nivel de grado otorgamos nuestros premios Campeón Comunitario a los estudiantes que demuestran cuidado, alegría, valentía, creencia y/o responsabilidad! ¡Busca este premio en la mochila de tu hijo y charla con él sobre estos valores en casa!
