Summary/Introduction:
This week at DCIS at Fairmont some of our students to a trip to Bowlero! We also had our first fire drill, and students did amazing! Reminder that MONDAY is Individual Picture day. See below for more information. Thanks for your support!

| Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Parent Corner | This week we will pause our Social Emotional Learning curriculum, Empowering Education. This week students will work with their teachers and classroom community to talk about accountability. Ask your students to share what agreements they’ve made around accountability in their classrooms! |
| Individual Picture Day | Monday is Individual Picture Day! Uniforms are not required. All students will take an individual photo. Need to order still? | Student Count Window | Attendance is super important EVERY DAY! Research shows attendance has substantial effects on academic and social emotional development. Attendance also affects our school budget! This week begins our “October Count” window, which the state will use to determine our funding. Please have students at school EVERY day! |
| School Accountability Committee (SAC) | If you are interested in collaborating with administrators, teachers, fellow parents, and community members to enhance student achievement, support the school’s mission, and provide feedback on staffing and budgeting, consider joining the DCIS Fairmont School Accountability Committee. The committee meets at 4 PM on the third Tuesday of every month during the school year to discuss school issues and provide feedback on key school decisions. We are looking for 2 parents/guardians to join the DCIS Fairmont Collaborative School Committee for this school year. The school community will then vote in members. Each member is elected for a term of 2 years. If you are interested or if you have any questions, feel free to contact the current SAC President, James Taurman, at james@taurman.com or 504-812-0208. |
| BESS Surveys (Due October 13th!) | At DCIS at Fairmont, and throughout DPS, we administer the BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System) to support our students social and emotional well being. In grades K-5, all teachers do the BESS survey for their students. In grades 3-5, all students do the BESS survey for themselves. This year, we would like parents to do them for their kiddo as well! | Comité de Responsabilidad Escolar (SAC) | Si está interesado en colaborar con administradores, maestros, otros padres y miembros de la comunidad para mejorar el rendimiento estudiantil, apoyar la misión de la escuela y brindar comentarios sobre la dotación de personal y el presupuesto, considere unirse al Comité de Responsabilidad Escolar de DCIS Fairmont. El comité se reúne a las 4 p.m. el tercer martes de cada mes durante el año escolar para discutir temas escolares y brindar comentarios sobre decisiones escolares clave. Estamos buscando 2 padres/tutores para unirse al Comité Escolar Colaborativo de DCIS Fairmont para este año escolar. Luego, la comunidad escolar votará para elegir a los miembros.
