Summary/Introduction:
This week at DCIS at Fairmont we had students dressed up for picture day; our MI-S students, ECE3 students, and some 4th graders participated in Adaptive Field Day; and we had our very first student monthly assemblies honoring the ambassadors of the month! See below for our September Ambassadors. Our 4th and 5th graders also have a visit from Chris Anthony, which will be followed up with a chance to go skiing in the winter. It was a great week! Next week we have our international festival – filled with tons of food, fun, and community. See below for more details. Thanks for your support!

| Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Parent Corner | This week we will pause our Social Emotional Learning curriculum, Empowering Education. This week students will work with their teachers and classroom community to talk about Identity and Understanding Identities. Ask your students to share what they’ve learned about their identity and those of their classmates. |
| BESS Surveys (Due October 13th!) | At DCIS at Fairmont, and throughout DPS, we administer the BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System) to support our students social and emotional well being. In grades K-5, all teachers do the BESS survey for their students. In grades 3-5, all students do the BESS survey for themselves. This year, we would like parents to do them for their kiddo as well! | Official Count Day…MONDAY! | Attendance is super important EVERY DAY! Research shows attendance has substantial effects on academic and social emotional development. Attendance also affects our school budget! This week begins our “October Count” window, which the state will use to determine our funding. Please have students at school EVERY day! Monday, October 2nd is our OFFICIAL count day, which will drive our funding for the remainder of the year and next. All students who are here on Monday will get a donut hole! |
| September Ambassadors! | Each month, each teacher will select a monthly ambassador for their classrooms. We will have a student assembly for K-2 and 3-5 to celebrate our ambassadors, and our equity themed months. Here are our ambassadors for September! (K-2) (3-5) |

| School Accountability Committee (SAC) | If you are interested in collaborating with administrators, teachers, fellow parents, and community members to enhance student achievement, support the school’s mission, and provide feedback on staffing and budgeting, consider joining the DCIS Fairmont School Accountability Committee. The committee meets at 4 PM on the third Tuesday of every month during the school year to discuss school issues and provide feedback on key school decisions. We are looking for 2 parents/guardians to join the DCIS Fairmont Collaborative School Committee for this school year. The school community will then vote in members. Each member is elected for a term of 2 years. | International Festival! | Join us for our annual International Festival! Our students have been working hard in learning about the country of their choice, creating a way to share their learning, and planning for their day! We will have multiple performances, tons of food, and lots of community. Please join us in the courtyard at 2pm on Friday. |

Esta semana en DCIS en Fairmont tuvimos estudiantes vestidos para el día de la fotografía; nuestros estudiantes de MI-S, estudiantes de ECE3 y algunos estudiantes de 4to grado participaron en el Día de Campo Adaptativo; ¡Y tuvimos nuestras primeras asambleas mensuales de estudiantes en honor a los embajadores del mes! | Rincón para padres de aprendizaje socioemocional (SEL) | Esta semana haremos una pausa en nuestro plan de estudios de Aprendizaje socioemocional, empoderando la educación. Esta semana los estudiantes trabajarán con sus maestros y la comunidad del salón para hablar sobre identidad y comprensión de las identidades. Pida a sus alumnos que compartan lo que han aprendido sobre su identidad y la de sus compañeros de clase. |
| Encuesta BESS (Favor de completar a más tardar el 13 de octubre) | En DCIS en Fairmont y en todo DPS, administramos el BESS (Sistema de evaluación emocional y conductual) para apoyar el bienestar social y emocional de nuestros estudiantes. En los grados K-5, todos los maestros realizan la encuesta BESS para sus estudiantes. En los grados 3-5, todos los estudiantes realizan la encuesta BESS por sí mismos. ¡Este año, nos gustaría que los padres también se los hicieran a sus hijos! | Día oficial del conteo… ¡LUNES! | ¡La asistencia es súper importante TODOS LOS DÍAS! Las investigaciones muestran que la asistencia tiene efectos sustanciales en el desarrollo académico y socioemocional. ¡La asistencia también afecta nuestro presupuesto escolar! | Comité de Rendición de Cuentas Escolar (SAC) | Si está interesado en colaborar con administradores, maestros, otros padres y miembros de la comunidad para mejorar el rendimiento estudiantil, apoyar la misión de la escuela y brindar comentarios sobre la dotación de personal y el presupuesto, considere unirse al Comité de Responsabilidad Escolar de DCIS Fairmont. El comité se reúne a las 4 p.m. el tercer martes de cada mes durante el año escolar para discutir temas escolares y brindar comentarios sobre decisiones escolares clave. Estamos buscando 2 padres/tutores para unirse al Comité Escolar Colaborativo de DCIS Fairmont para este año escolar. Luego, la comunidad escolar votará para elegir a los miembros.
