Summary/Introduction:
This week at DCIS at Fairmont we honored our September Ambassadors! We are so proud of our students for showing all of our core values and being ambassadors and role models for the classroom. We also celebrated students who had perfect attendance in the month of September, and our grade level with the best attendance. For September, this was kindergarten! Our kindergartners will celebrate with an extra recess this week. The fence around the Inclusive Playground has also come down! We are so excited to open this for inclusive play on Monday. Also be aware this is a complete week.We have school Monday – Friday. Thanks for your support!

¡Esta semana en DCIS at Fairmont honramos a nuestros Embajadores de septiembre! Estamos muy orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes por mostrar todos nuestros valores fundamentales y ser embajadores y modelos a seguir en el aula. También celebramos a los estudiantes que tuvieron asistencia perfecta en el mes de septiembre y nuestro nivel de grado con la mejor asistencia. ¡Para septiembre, fue Kindergarten! Nuestros niños de kindergarten celebrarán con un recreo adicional esta semana. ¡La cerca que rodea el Parque Infantil Inclusivo también ha caído! | New Inclusive Playground Nuevo parque infantil inclusivo | Our new inclusive playground is ready to go! The biggest piece of equipment we need support with the wheelchair swing. This is an extremely fragile piece of equipment – most of the wheelchair swings around the school are broken and haven’t been fixed for a long time because it’s very hard to find the parts. Students without a wheelchair should not EVER be on the wheelchair swing. Please support us in reinforcing this with your students while you are enjoying the new equipment! | Safe from the Start (Safety Prevention Program) Safe from the start (Programa de prevención de seguridad) | DCIS at Fairmont in conjunction with the Denver Children’s Advocacy Center will begin teaching the Denver Safe from the Start safety curriculum in your child’s classroom beginning in October. This program has been offered to our students for over 8 years and the children love it! The Safe from the Start program teaches children skills that will help keep them safe from dangerous situations. Children also learn to ask for help when they need it. Please find an introductory letter attached, a passive consent form attached and parent videos attached. Consent forms only need to be returned if you do not want your child to attend. | Halloween Celebration Celebración de Halloween | Dear families, Students are allowed to wear Halloween costumes on October 31st! Please note the following guidelines: –No masks, weapons, or excessive blood in costumes. –ECE and Kindergarten students can wear their costumes all day. –1st to 5th graders will change into their costumes at 1:30 PM. -Our school parade will begin at 2:00 PM in the courtyard. Families are welcome to attend! | Read-A-Thon Maratón de lectura | Our 3rd Annual Read-A-Thon is Monday the 14th through Friday the 18th. This is a great opportunity to start (or continue) daily reading in your home. Reading at home has so many benefits – kids expand their imagination, learn empathy and vocabulary, are more likely to graduate from high school and college, and are much less likely to go to prison. Daily reading reduces attention and behavioral issues, too. Reading is also a great time to bond with your child. We ask all students to read (or be read to) for 20 minutes each day. Parents can log minutes online to get points to win prizes for their child’s classroom. This is also a fundraiser, so please share with at least 5 friends via email and social media. We are raising funds for classroom supplies, paraprofessionals and our communication platform, Remind. Here’s a link to register your student(s). This is also how you share with friends and family: Registration Link We will have prizes for the classes that log the most reading minutes, teachers whose classes participate the most (raffle), students who register (raffle), and the class that raises the most money.
