En nuestro programa DLI nos centramos en nuestros estudiantes y familias nativos en el lenguaje de español. Son nuestros líderes y su lengua y cultura están en el centro del programa. Creemos en la oportunidad de conectar a los estudiantes a través de la cultura y el idioma para construir líderes en nuestra comunidad y nuestro mundo. Por eso nuestras aulas de DLI están formadas por un 50% de hablantes nativos de español y un 50% de hablantes de inglés u otros idiomas. Por ello, nuestro programa DLI ofrece una oportunidad única a los estudiantes nativos de habla hispana para convertirse en los líderes centrales del aula y de la comunidad escolar.
Los beneficios de la educación bilingüe son infinitos. Sabemos que los alumnos bilingües consiguen mejorar sus habilidades de lectura y pensamiento crítico en inglés. ¡De hecho, los estudios demuestran que, en promedio, los estudiantes bilingües superan a sus compañeros en las habilidades de lectura en inglés por un año escolar completo de aprendizaje al final de la escuela secundaria!
Los alumnos del programa de inmersión dual tienden a obtener mejores resultados en los exámenes, dicen estar más contentos en la escuela, tienen mejor asistencia y menos problemas de comportamiento. La participación de los padres en las escuelas de dos idiomas es también mayor por término medio. Nuestros alumnos de idiomas también demuestran un mayor aprecio, tolerancia y respeto por las personas que hablan otras lenguas y proceden de culturas diferentes.
Ofrece la oportunidad no sólo de sumergirse en la lengua que han escuchado desde el vientre materno. Sino de hacer conexiones y convertirse en líderes para sus compañeros. Las evaluaciones demuestran que consolidar la base de la gramática, la lectura y la escritura en español será una ventaja para la transición al inglés con mayor fluidez. Nuestros alumnos nativos de habla inglesa se sumergen en el idioma español y serán funcionalmente bilerados y bilingües cuando se gradúen de 5º grado. El modelo de inmersión resulta en una mejor adquisición de vocabulario y lenguaje que otros modelos de lenguaje dual.
El método de enseñanza es el modelo 90:10 de inmersión bidireccional. La mayor parte de nuestro plan de estudios se imparte en español. Los estudiantes de ECE, kinder y primer grado recibirán alrededor del 90% de su instrucción diaria en español y el 10% en inglés. Cada año, los estudiantes recibirán más instrucción en inglés a medida que el porcentaje de tiempo de instrucción en español comienza a disminuir. Para el 5º grado los estudiantes recibirán el 50% de su instrucción diaria en español y el 50% en inglés.

Debido a nuestro modelo, normalmente no aceptamos a los que sólo hablan inglés después del primer grado. Los estudiantes que son bilingües en dos idiomas(capacidad de leer y comprender en la primera y segunda lengua) pueden entrar en el programa en cualquier momento. In our DLI program we center our native Spanish speaking students and families. They are our leaders and their language and culture are at the heart of the program. We believe in the opportunity to connect students across culture and language to build leaders in our community and our world. That is why our DLI classrooms consist of about 50% native Spanish speakers and 50% speakers of English or other languages. Because of this, our DLI program offers a unique opportunity to native Spanish speaking students to become the central leaders in the classroom and school community.
There are endless benefits that come from a bilingual education! We know that bilingual students achieve improved English reading and critical thinking skills. In fact, studies show that on average, dual language students outperform their peers in English-reading skills by a full school year’s worth of learning by the end of middle school!
Dual language Immersion students tend to have higher test scores, report to be happier in school, have better attendance and fewer behavioral problems. Parent involvement at dual language schools is also higher on average. Our language learners also demonstrate greater appreciation, tolerance and respect for people who speak other languages and come from different cultures.
It offers an opportunity to not only immerse in the language they’ve heard since the womb. But actually make connections and become leaders for their peers. The research shows that solidifying the foundation of grammar, reading and writing in Spanish will be an advantage to transition more fluently to English. Opportunities will open up not only in a professional setting, but there will also be strong acknowledgment of their culture, and heritage which is an important part of the student.
Our native English speaking students get to be immersed in the Spanish language and will be functionally bilerated and bilingual by the time they graduate from 5th grade. The immersion model results in better vocabulary and language acquisition than other dual language models.
The method of instruction is the 90:10 model of Two-Way Immersion. The majority of our curriculum is taught in Spanish. Students in ECE, kindergarten and first grade will receive about 90% of their daily instruction in Spanish and 10% in English. Each year, students will receive more instruction in English as the percentage of a Spanish instruction time begins to decrease. By 5th grade students will receive 50% of their daily instruction in Spanish and 50% in English.

Because of our model, we typically do not accept English-only speakers after the first grade. Students that are bilingual and biliterate (ability to read and comprehend in the first and second language) can enter the program at any time. Please note this on your School Choice application and we will complete a language assessment to determine eligibility.
We believe biliteracy is a superpower and a backbone to what we mean by a multicultural and international learning approach. Our vision is that our bilingual and biliterate students think critically, expand their knowledge, and build confidence that empowers them to be leaders in their intercultural communities and the world.
We want families to know that a Dual Language Immersion program is often the only way to support your child’s bilingualism if your home is English-only. For all the reasons we listed above, we believe this is an incredible opportunity. And we want you to also know it doesn’t always come free of some hardships.
