This week at DCIS at Fairmont we had our first overnight field trip! Our 5th graders had an incredible time in Breckenridge. Read below. Today is also the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month! Students will be learning about Hispanic Heritage Month on Fridays as well as getting ready for our International Festival on October 6th. Also be aware that there is NO SCHOOL THIS FRIDAY. | 5th Graders went to Breckenridge! | Our 5th graders spent Thursday and Friday in Breckenridge, Colorado learning new skills and having a ton of fun together! Student rock climbed, hiked, kayaked and paddle boarded all while cheering each other on! When the weather got a little chilly, they cooked, played games, and curled up for a movie. | FACE University (Classes for Parents from DPS!) | Thursday, September 21st, Parenting and Supporting LGBTQ+ YouthJoin us ONLINE 6:00 – 6:45 pm for a session on Parenting and Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth. This session will be hosted by Fortaleza Familiar in both English and Spanish (English 9/21, Spanish 9/28). As usual, there will be a PRIZE giveaway for people who attend our live session. You must RSVP to qualify for our giveaway, and receive the link to attend this session. Thursday October 12th, 5:00 – 5:45 pm: Supporting LGBTQ+ Kids – Resources and Information from PFLAG DenverJoin us ONLINE 5:00 – 5:45 PM! This session will provide families and caregivers of queer youth with resources to show up as informed, supportive advocates. With 40 years of experience, PFLAG Denver supports and connects families on their journey of loving and advocating for their children and loved ones. | BESS Surveys (Due October 13th!) | At DCIS at Fairmont, and throughout DPS, we administer the BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System) to support our students social and emotional well being. In grades K-5, all teachers do the BESS survey for their students. In grades 3-5, all students do the BESS survey for themselves. This year, we would like parents to do them for their kiddo as well! ¡Esta semana en DCIS en Fairmont tuvimos nuestra primera excursión nocturna! Nuestros alumnos de quinto grado se lo pasaron increíble en Breckenridge. Lee abajo. ¡Hoy también es el primer día del Mes de la Herencia Hispana! Los estudiantes aprenderán sobre el Mes de la Herencia Hispana los viernes y se prepararán para nuestro Festival Internacional el 6 de octubre. | ¡Los alumnos de quinto grado fueron a Breckenridge! | ¡Nuestros alumnos de quinto grado pasaron el jueves y viernes en Breckenridge, Colorado, aprendiendo nuevas habilidades y divirtiéndose muchísimo juntos! ¡Los estudiantes escalaron, caminaron, navegaron en kayak y remaron mientras se animaban unos a otros! En los grados K-5, todos los maestros realizan la encuesta BESS para sus estudiantes.
