Summary/Introduction:
This week at DCIS at Fairmont we welcomed students back with a whole lot of SPIRIT! We had a lot of fun seeing superheroes, fancy clothes, athletes, and a whole lot of different career hopes. Please be aware CMAS testing for our 3rd-5th graders starts this week! Send lots of encouragement and support their way – we are so excited for them to get to show off everything they learned. Esta semana en DCIS at Fairmont recibimos a los estudiantes con mucho entusiasmo. Nos divertimos mucho viendo superhéroes, ropa elegante, atletas y un montón de diferentes aspiraciones profesionales. ¡Tengan en cuenta que las pruebas CMAS para nuestros estudiantes de 3.º a 5.º grado comienzan esta semana! | Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) Sistema de detección conductual y emocional | Addressing the mental health and social emotional needs of our students is critical to ensuring their well-being and healthy development, their access to safe and welcoming schools, and their ability to engage with grade level texts and tasks. At DCIS at Fairmont, we have implemented the BESS for the past 4 years so many of you are familiar with the screener. Last year, DPS made the BESS screener mandatory for all schools to ensure every DPS student’s mental health and well-being will be supported through culturally responsive prevention and intervention services. All eligible students will be screened at the school using three forms of the BESS three times per year. -Student Self-Report for eligible students (Grades 3-5) -Teacher Report (ECE-5) -Parent/Caregiver Report forms English | Abordar las necesidades socioemocionales y de salud mental de nuestros estudiantes es fundamental para garantizar su bienestar y desarrollo saludable, su acceso a escuelas seguras y acogedoras y su capacidad para interactuar con textos y tareas de nivel de grado. | LIVE Workshop Opportunity Oportunidad de taller EN VIVO | Something I’ve learned over the years as an educator and as a father is that when big things are happening in the world, our kids are bound to get word of it one way or another. As much as we may want to shield our kids from all the turmoil of the world, there are times where the turmoil breaks through our shields; They hear about it from friends at school, from family members, on the news, on social media and online videos, etc. Or maybe what’s happening has a direct impact on their lives, and they simply can’t ignore it. And when the tough questions start coming our way, we don’t always know how to respond.This workshop is inspired by the work of powerful educators and thinkers like bell hooks, Paulo Freire, Howard Zinn, and others who taught us to aspire to a kind of education that challenges the status quo and opens up our imaginations; The kind of education that helps us to see the cracks in the world and gives us the tools to build towards a better world, one where people can truly be free.We are honored to partner with our friends at My Reflection Matters to present this workshop for their virtual Village community. Por mucho que queramos proteger a nuestros hijos de toda la agitación del mundo, hay momentos en que la agitación rompe nuestros escudos; se enteran de ello por amigos en la escuela, por familiares, en las noticias, en las redes sociales y en videos en línea, etc. O tal vez lo que está sucediendo tiene un impacto directo en sus vidas y simplemente no pueden ignorarlo.
