Jenny Cuesta

Dual Language Immersion

Department(s):
5th Grade

Hello! My name is Jenny Cuesta, and I am a dedicated and passionate bilingual educator. I began my teaching journey in  my home country, Colombia, where I taught bilingual classes and worked closely with diverse student populations. Later,  I secured a master’s degree in Neuropsychology and Education from Spain, which has deeply shaped my understanding  of how students learn, process information, and grow both emotionally and academically.

I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Basic Education with an emphasis in English, and I’ve completed additional coursework  in teaching Spanish as a Second Language. My background has allowed me to support multilingual learners, design  inclusive and culturally responsive instruction, and collaborate closely with families from a variety of backgrounds.

For the past few years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work in Illinois, just 45 minutes from Chicago. There, I served  as a 5th grade bilingual teacher, developing cross-curricular lessons that integrated academic rigor with cultural awareness  and social-emotional development. I’ve led small group interventions, supported students with diverse needs, and used  data to inform instruction and promote equitable growth. My favorite part of teaching is building strong relationships with  students and helping them find joy in learning.

I have to say that one of my greatest passions is sharing my Colombian heritage with students. I love conducting after school programs that incorporate music, dance, and folklore helping students see the beauty of cultural diversity while  also strengthening their own identities. I greatly believe that when students feel seen, respected, and engaged, they thrive and that’s the kind of classroom I strive to create.

I will soon be relocating to the Denver area, and I’m so excited to join the DCIS Fairmont community. I look forward to  learning from this vibrant school and contributing my experience, enthusiasm, and heart to our shared work.  Let’s make this an unforgettable school year full of discovery, connection, and growth!
