 Hello!

I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to DCIS at Fairmont. My name is Veraliz Fernández de Barbano but please feel free to call me Verita!  I was born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia and moved as a  college student to Bogota, D.C. I lived there for 25 years and worked as a Kindergarten teacher most  of the time! I have a BA in Early Childhood Education, a Master’s degree in Elementary  Education and credits towards Educational Leadership. I have 30+ years of experience as a teacher.

I love young students because they grow tons during a school year, they are so eager to learn and to become independent! They make friends and enjoy coming to school so much!

My family and I moved to Denver during the summer of 2017.  This will be my seventh year working for DPS and my sixth at DCIS!

I am married and we have 30-yr old twin boys…young men, I mean. My family makes me  very proud. I love cats and we have five of them at home! Two of them came with us when  we moved since they are also part of our family! We also have a dog named Romeo. He is  loving and a “good boy”.

My hobbies are reading children’s literature, watching baseball, dancing…and pets, of  course! I am an animal lover!

I believe we will have a joyful and rewarding experience this school year.  Welcome to DCIS and to a wonderful year together! Verita
